Derby Festival Report

A future Gator and possible future Gator were in action last night at the Derby Festival Basketball Classic in Louisville. Erik Murphy and Eric Bledsoe played for the "black" team, which lost a 151-145 shootout.

Neither player was a star in the contest but both posted some pretty good numbers. Murphy played 18 minutes and scored eight points while grabbing three rebounds, but his best stat was a game-high four blocked shots. Seeing how the Gators' leading shot blocker, Alex Tyus averaged less than one a game that's very encouraging.

As for Bledsoe, the uncommitted guard from Birmingham capped a solid weekend with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists in just 24 minutes of play. On Friday Bledsoe teamed up with Louisville recruit Rakeem Buckles to win the two-on-two tournament. Most expect Bledsoe to visit Florida in the next week or two.

It's interesting to note that one of the game MVP awards went to FSU recruit Michael Snaer. The 6-4 wing led all scorers with 30 points and added seven rebounds and six assists.
