Tuesday Quick Hits

When spring is in the air that can mean only one thing, the pads go on. I caught up with a few recruits yesterday to see how things were going. Some are current commitments for the Florida Gators while others are high priorities.

Wide receiver Solomon Patton is not practicing this week due to state track meets coming up this weekend but he told me that won't stop the Florida Gators from coming to check in on him this week. Southern Miss is the lone school to visit Patton this week. The Gators will be in the next two days. Patton spoke with both head coach Urban Meyer and his recruiting coach Chuck Heater.

Coach Loeffler and coach Addazio went to check in on offensive lineman Brent Benedict. The talented offensive tackle prospect said things continue to progress nicely between himself and the Gator coaches. Others to visit him this week include South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Georgia and the Gators.

Yesterday was the first day of practice for Ransom Everglades High School and super safety/linebacker prospect Gideon Ajagbe. He was glad to get the first day of practice out of the way and said he was doing work out there and can't wait to kick off his senior season. Gideon is another prospect that has hit the recruiting trail so to speak for the Gators.

Wide receiver prospect James Haynes from West Orange (TX) Stark told me that Florida will visit his school next week sometime. Stark High School doesn't have spring football at this time and only goes through non-contact and conditioning drills. Haynes is being recruited as both a wide receiver prospect and a defensive back prospect.

Jaylen Watkins is another who can't do much at practice this week due to his state track meet set for this weekend but told me the team is looking great.

Jonathan Dowling said things couldn't be going any better at this time. Bradenton Southeast puts the pads on for the first time today and he was looking forward to hitting someone today. He is at 185 currently but by the end of his senior season he plans on weighing around 200-205 so he can be as prepared as possible for Florida.

Jeff Luc and Jatashun Beachum both told me that Florida came to see them yesterday as well as Kacy Rogers and things were fine with all three. Chris Dunkley also told me that the Gators came by Pahokee yesterday.
