Marcus Smith wants to play for Gators

At 6-4, 215-pounds with a 35-inch vertical, Marcus Smith from Columbus (GA) Hardaway has all the athletic ability to play quarterback at the University of Florida. The question becomes, will he?

"I have had a great spring so far," Marcus Smith said. "Coach Loeffler came by last week to watch me throw and I know he liked what he saw. He wants to work with me over the summer during camp so I can't wait to go back down to Gainesville and get some live work with Coach Loeffler."

The newly acquired quarterback coach wasn't the only coach to watch Smith throw.

"Coach Brian White came in today (Wednesday) to watch me practice. We had to stop early due to thunder and lightning but the offense has been real productive so far this spring. My touch on all my short passes has been spot on. Last year I might have hit on three of five but this year I am hitting on five of five and have graded out at over 90 percent so far this spring. Friday the pads go on for the first time so the entire team is looking forward to getting that done."

Arkansas, South Florida, Florida are the three teams that have been by to see Smith in person this season and one of them has set the bar real high for the rest to follow.

"Florida is where I really want to play so that will be the only visit and the only camp that I attend over the summer."
