Spring Recruit Tracker: Michael Thornton

Stone Mountain (GA) Stephenson High School defensive tackle Michael Thornton has been turning heads as of late. A standout at the recent Scout.com Atlanta combine showing great athletic ability, Thornton is 6-2 and 280-pounds.

"Right now, spring is going just like it needs to be going," Michael Thornton said. "We don't have a lot of injuries and we have a bunch of new guys that are stepping up to play ball with the varsity guys. I only see great things in our future. The offense is picking it up and getting plays in that we kind of had some trouble with last year and the defense hasn't missed a beat. We are still the same hard-nosed group that loves to attack."

Indiana, Toledo, Michigan State, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Tulane, Stanford, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Clemson to name a few have been by this spring.

"Our big rival game is always MLK and Redan, those teams really try to bring out the big guns when we line up and play," Thornton said. "I am a great leader. I am very interactive when somebody doesn't know something. I try my hardest to explain it to them just like the other seniors on our team. We are all working hard to become better leaders and we all have responsibilities to keep our team up. We have great leadership."

"Right now, I don't have any selections on the college camps that I will go to but I will try to attend at least two and focus on getting myself better for my season. The rest will just be unofficial visits."

Thornton racked up 95 total tackles, including 49 solo tackles and four sacks. He also forced three fumbles and recovered two during his junior season and expects even bigger things this year.
