At 6-3 and 190-pounds, Michael Bennett could play on either side of the ball at the next level as was the case during his spring game. Coach Kenny Carter was in attendance for that game and had to like what he saw firsthand.
"In the spring game, I had 10 catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns," Bennett said. "I also rushed for 20 yards on four carries. On defense, I had five tackles playing both safety and corner. It meant a lot for Coach Carter to be there. I felt like I needed to put on an awesome show for him but at the same time I just kept telling myself to play 'my game' and everything will work out. And it did."
"I have a very good relationship with Coach Carter. We have talked on the phone and in person about four times. He has talked with my dad a lot as well. I met Coach Gonzales when he stopped by my school. They both talk about how they love my speed and athleticism. They also like how I can go up and get the ball over corners."
Bennett talked about his expectations when he visits the champs.
"I'm going to leave Sunday and stay the night and then do the camp on Monday. I'm going to try to stay around for a little bit longer and maybe get a tour of the campus. When I talk to the staff I expect to learn how they would use me in their offense. I also would love to talk to Coach Meyer for a little bit. It is a big deal to me that the National Champions are showing me strong interest. Florida along with Georgia and Michigan State would be dream offers so I would very excited to get an offer. I can't wait to get out there at camp and show the coaches what I can do."
Bennett has 11 offers with the latest coming from Syracuse on Thursday.
"Air Force, UAB, Southern Miss, Troy, Ohio, Akron, Wisconsin, Indiana, Syracuse, East Carolina and Central Michigan have offered at this time. Georgia, Florida, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Connecticut and Purdue are the next teams that are close to offering."
