Number 15 is a Surprise

The University of Florida has been reeling in the commitments from football prospects in the last week. The third commitment in five days came late Wednesday when Milford Prep (NY) athlete Travon Van let it out of the bag that he committed to Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators. Van is certainly a surprise among Gator recruitniks, but has been on the UF radar for quite some time.

Originally from Helix High School in La Mesa (CA), Travon Van was a star as a running back and a defensive back. He graduated this month, but will enroll at Milford Prep in order to better prepare himself for college. He should be eligible and able to enroll for the spring semester in January at the university of Florida. caught up with Van late Wednesday night to hear a little bit of what went down.

"Yes I did," Van said of committing to the gators. "Florida is the best team in college football. Me being a football player I want to play for the best and with the best. They have the best coaches and players and I love the people in that town."

Van had a personal meeting with Florida Head Coach urban Meyer and Meyer was very excited to have an excellent athlete like Van aboard.

"Coach Meyer told me he was proud to have me a part of the Gator Nation," Van said. "He also said to work hard and be ready to come in and compete for national titles. My family was proud as well."

Time will tell where he ends up playing when he lands in Gainesville, most believe on the defensive side of the ball. Van isn't quite sure himself. "I am going to Florida as an athlete," he said.
