Football notes... As we told you on Sunday Antoine Sharp will transfer, possibly to South Florida. Other players may follow suit after spring practice. As many as 5 more players could look to finish there careers elsewhere. As of this report, no new developments on the weekend case against the three football players most notably Mo Mitchell. Brian Crum and Channing Crowder were also involved. There are conflicting eyewitness accounts that could actually strengthen the players cases. Ron Zook will handle it after the police takes care of it's business. Florida continues to look at athletes in this year's high school recruiting class. Having filled an immediate need on the offensive line via the Juco route, Zook may dip into the Juco's one final time for outstanding defensive back Reynaldo Hill. If he and the other top recruits end up in Gainesville (Dee Webb and Antonio Cromartie) look for Keiwan Ratliff to move to receiver and be a starter right away. Much will be made of the spring QB derby and rightfully so, with the departure of Rex Grossman. Gavin Dickey will emerge as the starter but the top backups may not be on campus just yet. I believe Chris Leak will play as a true freshman. Right now, Florida's team is already more athletic than it was last season. Just for kicks imagine a secondary of Guss Scott and Daryl Dixon at safety and Dee Webb and Reynaldo Hill at corner. Antonio Cromartie as the nickel along with the McCollum twins and Nick Brooks. At receiver Dallas Baker, Kewain Ratliff and Carlos Perez with Jemalle Cornelius, Reggie Lewis, Ken Tookes, Kelvin Kight, Chad Jackson and Andre Caldwell. This year's class will go a long way to determining the future of the Florida program. If Zook and his staff close this year's class they could make Gainesville into "Miami North" with athletes across the board that can flat out run. Finally if you are wondering what kind of talent Bill Miller and Charlie Strong have recruited and coached in the past? Check out these names - Nate Webster, Dan Morgan, Huey Richardson, Fee Bartley and Darren Hambrick.
Gator Hoops notes....Christian Drejer will make his debut versus Tennessee. His minutes will probably be in the 12-18 range starting out. Look for him to take 4 minutes a piece from Matt Bonner and Matt Walsh and eat up some of the bench minutes from Colas and Moss. He will be an added offensive weapon off the bench to go with Anthony Roberson. Florida is now 4-0 versus ranked opponents this season and Donovan is 16-5 in his last 21 games versus ranked opponents. Florida's team scoring defense is three points lower than last year as they are giving up only 63 point per game, but the defense is not actually better without Udonis Haslem and Oriene Greene, as opponents are shooting 42% which is 9th in the league in opponent field goal percentage. In the last three big games that were close to the end, three different players hit big shots - Bonner vs FSU, Walsh vs Miami and Roberson vs Georgia. Hamilton was big versus Mississippi St. giving Donovan multiple options down the stretch. Coming into the week UF was the only team with 3 players in the top 15 in scoring in the SEC with Walsh (12) Roberson (13) and Bonner (14).The SEC is pretty stout this season with top five teams Arizona, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma all losing to SEC teams.
