Tejay Johnson Eyes the Gators

One of the best kept secrets this recruiting season has been Tejay Johnson. From Egg Harbor (NJ), Johnson is 6-1 and 180-pounds of pure speed and athletic ability.

Tejay Johnson is the school record holder in the 200m with a time of 21.3 and has posted times of 10.38 in the 100m and 48.6 in the 400m. Running track in college is something that he would look into if the right opportunity presents itself.

One opportunity that Johnson is looking at is the Florida Gators.

"My offer list is Rutgers, Syracuse, Nebraska, Purdue, Akron, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Louisville, Toledo, Pittsburgh and Temple. I have verbal offers from Michigan, Tennessee and Miami."

He currently favors Florida over Penn State and speaks with offensive coordinator Steve Addazio on a regular basis.

"I have talked to Coach Addazio plenty of times and he has told me to continue to work hard and be a competitor. Coach also told me to stay humble and watch this whole recruiting process because while it will be fun for me it is a business at the same time. He keeps telling me to make sure I do my homework."

Johnson plays all over the field on both sides of the ball, corner, safety, wideout and running, but it's on the offensive side of the ball that attracts him to Florida.

"I personally believe I am the perfect fit with what they do. I have true speed and I also continue to get faster while I have the ball in my hands. It becomes very difficult for defenders to take me down. I also can split wide at 6-1 and run great routes and do some other things."

Being from New Jersey one might think Johnson doesn't know that much about Florida and that is hardly the case.

"I know about the Florida Gators," he said. "The great Emmitt Smith played there. I have never been to Florida before but I watched a ton of games last year and we have similar style schemes and offensive weapons on our high school team to the Gators. We were told to watch them play and see how they execute the offensive game plan. I hope I can make it to Friday Night Lights because it would be a crazy experience and I could show the world what kind of true football player that I really am."

"Schools have offered anywhere from safety, corner, receiver or playing my favorite position the running back or hybrid kind of position."

His favorite players are Percy Harvin and Reggie Bush.
