Cornerback Board Taking Shape

Right now, Florida is in great shape with two national caliber type cornerbacks in Jaylen Watkins (No. 136 overall) and Victor Hampton (No. 167 overall). Ideally, the Gators would like to take three corners depending on how the rest of the board shakes out.

At one time, we heard that the Gators might want to take as many as four true corners. It remains to be seen where Demar Dorsey will end up, but he could certainly end up at corner if that's where he is needed.

Other corners to keep an eye on are Johnavon Fulton who I believe ends up at Alabama. Terrence Mitchell looks to be headed to Florida State. The Gators haven't been on Tony Grimes very much at all right now, and I don't see him as an option. With players like Pernell Williams and Garry Peters likely off Florida's board, look for players like Terrence Brooks, Nickell Robey and possibly Cody Riggs as possible options.

With Watkins and Hampton and the possibility of a Dorsey all at corner, the Gators are in great position to put the full court press on some of these players and wait it out and see how things unfold.

It's about getting the right guys and certainly Florida could have made a strong push for Williams and Peters and landed both had they wanted to. This is the year that the staff will take its time and take only the right players to fit in with what they do on that side of the ball.

Two more players to keep a close watch on are Tejay Johnson who is trying to get to Friday Night Lights and certainly would increase his chances of gaining an offer and Pee Wee Cobb from Auburn High School in Alabama.
