Five-Star McCay Through His Father's Eyes

It has been a very rough summer for five-star athlete Justin McCay. The 6-4, 200-pound athlete that is being recruited by everyone to play wide receiver watched his father pass away last month and has been trying to deal with that along with a crazy recruiting process. McCay plans on seeing the process through his father's eyes and making a final decision accordingly.

Every big time program in America wants to get Justin McCay on campus to play football in college. He has done an amazing job of keeping it all under control given the circumstances. With the coaches not able to call him, he has slowed the process down just a bit lately.

"It's busy but not as dad passed away so things slowed down," McCay said by phone. "I give coaches a call every now and then, probably two or three times a week. I have been really thinking about how he thought of it. I want to do this process after his model of it."

McCay has taken a step back and reflected on his father and just what he thought of all the schools looking in his direction. It is important for McCay to at least understand what his father was looking for when helping him look for the best fit.

"I want to look at it like my dad looked at the schools," he said. "It is getting harder because I want to see things like my dad saw them. Even though he isn't around he is in sort of a way going to play a part in it."

Right now McCay has five schools and he wants to take a small look at five others to make sure he isn't eliminating anyone he shouldn't be. He plans on limiting it to 10.

"I'm still thinking of adding some more schools, I have an idea who they are, but I have to talk to my coach about it. Oklahoma, Kansas State,Wisconsin, Florida, and Tennessee are the first five."

McCay will be traveling to Florida this week to participate in Florida's Friday Night Lights Camp. He should be in Gainesville for nearly 48 hours.

"I will be there," he said. "I am coming in Thursday night. I will be there all day Friday and then head to Orlando for a camp on Saturday night."

He has a great relationship with Florida wide receiver coach Billy Gonzales and Head Coach Urban Meyer. He knows a little bit about Florida but will find out a lot more.

"I talk the most to Coach Gonzales and Coach Meyer," he said. "I know it's a great school, I just need to get down there and see how it is. They are a great offense and I am a big tall receiver and can make plays in the spread."

He has one mission for this visit and he also knows when he will make his official visit to see the Gators.

"When I get down there I just want to get better," he said. "I will take a visit, probably for the Tennessee game."

Justin McCay is one of a great many big time prospects that will be at Friday Night Lights. No doubt about it, he has a chance to be the star of the show and everyone should be anticipating him going against some of the best competition in the country.
