Neiron Ball is a Gator

The University of Florida just picked up their 17th commitment for the class of 2010 when Jackson (GA) defensive end Neiron Ball told Urban Meyer and his staff he wanted to be a Gator. Ball performed well at Friday Night Lights as expected and earned a spot in the class. The Gators are still looking for much needed help on the defensive line, but Ball is a plus.

Neiron Ball ran a quick 4.5 in the 40 at Friday Night Lights. Although he weighed in at 197 pounds, he has lost some weight recovering from an injury and expects to be up before the start of his senior season. Ball worked out as a Fox defensive end meaning he will be asked to drop in coverage at times in the Gator defensive scheme.

Ball was on his way to practice when he was able to share this quote for Gator fans, "I'm real happy to be a Gator and I can't wait to get down there."

Ball is the first commitment at defensive end and speculation is that they may sign three before all is said and done. Look for the Gators to really press for bigger ends to play on the strong side.

We will have more on Ball soon and look for his video commitment interview at any time here on Scout.com.
