Patton Showed Versatility at FNL

Solomon Patton is a 5-9, 170-pound wide receiver with 4.4-speed from Mobile (AL) S S Murphy High School. Patton is also a member of the Florida Gators 2010 recruiting class. He recently took a trip back to Florida with his parents and his girlfriend for Friday Night Lights.

"We had about a six hour drive on the way home, so we left late Friday night so we could get back home," Solomon Patton said. "My girlfriend is getting ready to start classes at Southern Miss and she loved Florida. Coach Gonzales likes her a bunch. She is going to be a trainer in college so they talk about those things. Coach G talked to her and my parents before and after the camp. It was real cool because I have committed to Florida but they are still taking the time to show me how much they want me to be a Gator. It shows that they truly care about the players they recruit as a family."

Patton was not only impressive in the agility drills but was very impressive in one-on-one competition as well.

"Everything I thought went great," he said. "It was a pleasure competing with those wide receivers and it was nice to watch Chris Dunkley work. He is real good. I was operating from the slot most of the night mainly working on 6- and 10-yard out patterns. I did get a chance from the outside later in the night to work on some slants then went back inside to run the fade route. When I was running inside working on the fades I caught every ball that came my way."

Seemingly undersized, Patton plays with an abundance of strength and balance that allows him to make plays normally reserved for bigger players. He can go over the middle on a post route, or take an end-around right through the middle of the field. He is an accomplished receiver as capable of catching the 3rd and 12 out route as he is a wide receiver screen. Patton's versatility gives coaches a lot of options.
