Wilder with Big Goals

One of the top prospects from the class of 2011 is James Wilder. Wilder from Tampa (FL) Plant Senior High School is 6-2 and 224-pounds after weighing in at 215 at the start of summer. All of his strength numbers have increased across over the last few months. Wilder will see time during his junior season at defensive end, linebacker, running back and tight end.

James Wilder has had a very productive summer.

"Mostly this summer I spent most of my time out of city and state at 7-on-7 tournaments with my team in Hoover, Alabama and more places like Palm Beach and more. Then back at Plant for more hard work. Heading into the summer I was 215 now I'm currently at 224-pounds. My bench press has gone up 10 pounds to 315."

Wilder believes that if you don't set the bar high then you are limiting yourself in what you might be able to accomplish on.

"This is only my junior season but my goals for this year would be 200 tackles, 32 sacks, and 1,000 yards rushing and getting a state championship ring. I believe you have to set high standards and I will make sure I met the standards for these statistics."

All Gator fans need to remember the name James Wilder and might want to remember the face. There is a real good chance that you might see him in The Swamp on Saturday's over the next two seasons and beyond.

"As much as I possibly can I want to get the experience of being at one of the biggest college games so I will take as many trips as I can for the Gators."

My Take:
Wilder will be one of the nation's top players from the class of 2011 and could do so at more than one position. As of right now with his height at 6-2 and weight at 224-pounds I think you will see him at defensive end at the next level. Remember he has not even played his junior season in high school and will surely grow over the next 12 months or so. It's hard to say where James Wilder would be ranked within the state of Florida but in my mind worst case scenario he is top three and might very well be the top overall prospect. Right now the Gators have the inside track without question and will give him the kind of attention to keep it that way moving forward. Wilder was in attendance for the Gators first practice of the season.
