Powell Talks Gators

Five-star defensive end Ronald Powell has made two trips to visit the champs over the last few months. Is a return trip in the works? At 6-4 and close to 250-pounds with a 4.6 40, Moreno Valley (CA) Rancho Verde High School superstar Ronald Powell is arguably the top player on the West coast.

"Friday Night Lights was a great experience for me," Ronald Powell said. "I got a great feel for The Swamp and how it could be for a gameday situation. I mean it wasn't a 100 percent gameday experience but it was good. I now have a good feel for what it's going to be like. I also got a good feel for Gainesville overall."

It was clear to everyone who attended the kind of attention that Powell received from the entire Florida coaching staff. The most important Gator Urban Meyer paid close attention to the nation's No. 7 ranked defensive end during the new high definition unveiling.

"I get that feeling a lot to be honest with you from head coaches wherever I go. They tend to take me under their wing a little bit. I don't think about it like that though and with Coach Meyer and I we were just two men talking about life and football."

This was Powell's second trip to Florida coming off the heels of his summer camp performance in mid-June.

"This was more intense then back in June. Friday Night Lights is more of a big competition with all the guys out there competing. It was great to be a part of that experience. I had a chance to hang out with a lot of current players like Andre Debose, Xavier Nixon, Jelani Jenkins and Jordan Reed."

While he is yet to have a firm date on his official visit to Florida he does have a game in mind.

"I am not sure right now but I think the Tennessee game will be my official game day experience in The Swamp."

Powell has been one of the most heavily recruited players in the country with little or no time to relax and take it all in.

"My summer has been all camps, business and competing for the most part. I didn't get to have any vacation, my trip to Florida was my vacation."
