My Take:

Ronald Powell is the top overall ranked player in the West and obviously the top ranked defensive end. His size and athletic ability is freaky at this stage of his career. As good as he is at the defensive end position he is equally as impressive playing tight end. Powell has now visited the University of Florida two times this past summer. The first coming for camp in June then the following month for Friday Night Lights in July. He gave Florida a 10 on the first visit and that was backed up even more so on his second visit which was more like an extended stay vacation.

Powell treated this past summer like a business with numerous camps, visits and workouts with little or no time for himself. He has some ties to not only the university but the state of Florida that gives the Gators as good a shot as any to land him. Powell continues to speak with and stay in contact with the Gator coaching staff. He has long been rumored to be down to Florida and USC even before his first trip to Gainesville. The Gators have the inside track at this moment and it appears that Powell will take his official visit September 19 to see the defending national champion Gators host Tennessee. The thought process being have a few top guys come in for games with the outcomes already decided. It remains to be seen at this time if Powell will make his decision during his official visit to Florida or not. Don't be alarmed if he plays it close to the vest until after both official trips to USC and Florida and announces at a later time.
