Jeff Luc Recruiting File

One of the most physically impressive prospects for the class of 2010 is Treasure Coast High School middle linebacker Jeff Luc. Luc's offer list is a who's who of college football with some of the game's greatest teams extending written offers to the Port Saint Lucie star.

Position Rank: 5*/No. 1

Offer List: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame Ohio State, Southern Miss, Tennessee, USC and Oklahoma.

At 6-1 and 240-pounds linebacker Jeff Luc is one of the most menacing looking prospects you will find. Besides his obvious brute strength he shows incredible quickness for a player of his size. Luc has great football instincts and the sky is the limit.

My Take:
One of the most talked about recruits over the last several months has been Jeff Luc. A Florida State fan from the start, the Seminoles had a chance to end this one early by extending an early offer, they did not. Luc has told me in the past that had Florida State offered when he thought they would it would have been over. When Florida State did not offer when Luc expected he decided to take a visit to the University of Florida. Luc was immediately drawn to Gainesville, The Swamp and defensive coordinator coach Charlie Strong.

Luc has visited Florida and Florida State numerous times and the two in-state schools are thought to be the teams to beat at this time. Even though his relationship with the Gator coaching staff is strong the Garnett and Gold should not be counted out. People close to the FSU program have felt good about Luc for some time but I know he is intrigued about the possibility of playing with Gator linebacker Jon Bostic. There are some prospects that are just too close and while the Gators are making it tough for Luc to say no I believe at the end of the day he will say no if Florida State falters this season that could sway him to the Orange and Blue but right now it's going to be the Seminoles. Don't be surprised to see two "rival" Southeastern Conference teams pass the Gators while making a run for Luc with both Alabama and LSU. I heard from more than one source that Luc contacted the Florida State coaching staff recently to inform them he would indeed become a Florida State Seminole. Whether or not that is indeed the case we will all know soon enough. Luc did tell me today that in fact that was not the case.

Scout.com Take:
Luc is like a freak of nature on the high school level. He has size of an NFL linebacker and he plays on another level. He can over pursue the ball at times or jump the play every now and then, but he is the elite of the elite. He hits with force, he drives his body through the offensive player, he moves down hill in a hurry, he is a sure tackler, and he moves in space better than many would expect. Luc is ready for college now. - Chad Simmons.
