Gators Head West with an Offer

One of the top offensive line prospects for the class of 2011 is Christian Westerman. At 6-5 and 290-pounds Westerman is extremely athletic and has great feet. He is from Hamilton (AZ) Chandler High School.

Christian Westerman possesses great strength with a 400-pound bench press and over a 500-pound squat. He has received numerous accolades since his ninth grade season, inlcuding All Region 1st team as Freshman, Started every down as Sophomore on 5A1 State Championship team, Hamilton. All State HM, All Fiesta Region, Max Preps Sophomore All American. Preseason, All Arizona OT, Top Arizona Republic Offensive Lineman, East Valley Tribune #1 Rated offensive line.

Westerman can play any position on the offensive line but projects at that all important tackle position at the next level.

"Florida has an obvious tradition of great football, great players and winning ways. I could see myself thriving in the environment of Championship BCS football and great academics and support from the community in Gainesville. Florida is ranked No. 1 again this year and will continue their winning ways…..it is exciting."

Westerman, his coach and father have taken the initiative to let Florida know the interest that they have.

"Because programs are limited by the NCAA to contact sophomores, my coach and my dad have had contact with Coach Adazzio on a couple of occasions and expressed my interest in hearing from Florida. I have received questionnaires and camp invites only at this point. My dad may have talked to some other coaches as well about me attending the camp in The Swamp next summer."

National Signing day for the class of 2011 is a long way away but the thought of getting to know more about the Gators is something that is very exciting to the Westerman family.

"Amazing. I am very interested to hear from the Gators and see what all the buzz is about down there. I know a lot about them and know they have a winning machine down there."

Westerman has ties to the Southeast region and his family has a lot of excitement for football in the southeastern conference.

"My mother grew up in South Florida and I have family in many parts of the state, Avon Park area, Jupiter, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale and also in Georgia and Alabama. My mom's entire family in from the Southeast and has a lot of ties and excitement for SEC football."

Westerman reminds me of that old school offensive lineman that takes great pride in playing the position and plays it with that same mentality.

"I am strong, tenacious and finish blocks. I am quick and agile and can run. I enjoy 'owning' kids not just blocking them or positioning them."

He is hearing from all the major programs across the country with USC, Arizona State, Arizona, Florida as well as the entire Pac-10. Westerman also camped with Texas and is well connected in that area.

He is not ready to name a top five at this time but does mention a select few that could be around on National Signing Day.

"I am wide open at this point. It is too early to name a top five. The main teams I would love to hear from would be in no order, USC, Florida, Texas, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia….I again am wide open right now."

Westerman had a busy off-season and will stay busy as the recruiting process increases.

"I have been to unofficial visits to ASU and U of A as well as competition camps and other. Both have verbally offered me as a sophomore. I camped at UT and USC this summer. Both schools offered said they were very impressed with me, USC actually offered me verbally, Texas does things a little differently down there in terms of that but my visit and camp was stellar."

Westerman while only a junior has a well thought out plan for how he and his family will handle the recruiting process moving forward.

"My decision will not be narrowed down until my senior year. I will most likely narrow down a list of five towards the end of my senior season in 2011. My dream will be to play in the US Army All American game and be able to announce my college decision on national TV. I have been told that I will most likely be offered to play in that game and have already heard from them quite a bit. I also have received a packet and information on my possible invitation to play in the Under Armor All American game. That would be a blessing. I plan to take all five of my official visits. I want to go into the atmosphere, see the campus, meet the coaches and players and see the facilities, etc. Ideally I would like to take in a game at all of my top five and finalist schools. I will then be able to make a heart and head decision on my future. Right now I am focused on the present, playing high school football, keeping my GPA in high style and bringing home another 5A1 State Championship. I want to get a matchingsState ring for my other hand. The one I have now is pretty sweet. I will also have a chance to get a 3rd next season and believe we have the talent and depth to get it done."

His favorite team growing up was USC with his favorite player being Ray Lewis from the Baltimore Ravens.
