Remound Wright off to Fast Start in 2009

At 5-9 and 180-pounds, running back Remound Wright III or "R3" has been working very hard in the offseason in the hopes of getting off to a fast start and he did just that. From Fort Wayne (IN) Bishop Dwenger, Wright spent several days in Gainesville over the summer and was very impressed with the Florida coaching staff.

Dwenger won its first game easily and Remound Wright gave FightinGators.com the play-by-play.

"We played South Side our first game and we won 42-19. I scored the first touchdown on a 75-yard punt return. I also had 116 yards rushing on 12 carries (including a 65-yard touchdown run in the 4th, which makes me feel like I'm getting stronger as the game goes on) and a touchdown, and 65 yards receiving and a touchdown.

"The game feels slow when plays are developing in front of me, and I'm seeing things and my feet are just reacting without me having to tell them to. It's an awesome feeling. All the footwork drills I've been doing in the offseason are coming into play because my feet know exactly what to do in every situation. My vision is great and I'm seeing cutback lanes and reading blocks extremely well. I can always work on picking up my knees, but I believe my acceleration to the hole but patience through the hole were great.

"I'm running low and hard and my yards per carry and yards after contact is where I want them to be. but it can always get better. It was great to go head to head against a team in our conference and do what we wanted to do to them. We can always get better but we feel good about where we're at right now. "
