The Way I see It

The defending national champion Florida Gators open the 2009 season Saturday night at 7:00pm eastern time as they host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. To say the Gators are chomping at the bit to get back on the field would be an understatement.

This year's defense has the mentality that every series they play is for the championship. The goal is to not only pitch a shutout but to not allow a single first down.

This one will be over quickly as the Gators will race out to a 21-0 first quarter edge. In the second quarter it will be more of the same as the Gators will once again put three more touchdowns on the board to take a 42-0 halftime lead. At the break the Gators will hold a 285-to-59 total yard advantage.

Tim Tebow will have a very impressive first half going 12-of-16 for 200 yards and three touchdowns while adding 65 yards rushing on six carries and a score. Both Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey will break the 100-yard rushing mark on the day.

Defensively, the Gators will force four turnovers with three coming by interception and one fumble recovery. Will Hill will lead the way for the defense with nine total tackles and one interception. The Gators will not allow more than 150 total yards and will achieve the first of three shutouts on the season (Tennessee and Mississippi State).

Final score Gators 70 Buccaneers 0.

Next Up the Troy Trojans from the Sun Belt Conference.
