Byrd Likes Five

Erial (NJ) Timber Creek Regional High School athlete Damiere Byrd has the kind of speed that offensive coaches covet. Byrd, a 5-10, 165 pound slot receiver with 4.3 speed ended his sophomore season with 28 rushing attempts for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

Damiere Byrd added another 35 catches for 483 yards and three more touchdowns on the year. Byrd has good strength with a 225-pound bench and 335 pound squat.

Byrd admits that Florida could be a good fit for what he brings to the table.

"I definitely think at this point I could fit in with the team and coaches well. I believe I am compatible with the style of play offensively. It would be very exciting. I've grown up watching them play at The Swamp and it would be amazing to actually play in it."

Byrd talked a little bit about his game.

"I pick up concepts easily, very coachable. Playing wise I think I need to approve on yards after catch but everyone has things they need to approve on."

Texas and Florida were his two favorite teams growing up and Desean Jackson his favorite player. Byrd is hearing from Oregon, UCLA, Rutgers, Michigan and Virginia the most at this time. Byrd is scheduled to attend the Michigan season opener on September 5.

While it is very early in the process Byrd will keep a close eye on five teams.

"Florida, Oklahoma State, Texas, Florida State and Wake Forest because growing up I've watched them programs succeed and they all run a variation of the spread. I run the spread at my high school."
