Shaw Makes Trip to Gainesville

West Coast superstar took in The Swamp as the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators hosted the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday. Joshua Shaw checks in at 6-1 and 180-pounds from Palmdale (CA).

"My mom and dad and I left Friday night late and arrived in Gainesville around 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning," Joshua Shaw said. "My first impression was Florida is a real college town. I mean everything around that place is all about the Gators. There were people tailgating all over the place and it was all about the Gators."

Shaw talked about some of the things he did heading into the 3:30 p.m. kick time.

"The Gator Walk was real cool. During the pre-game walkthrough I was in the weight room checking that out. It is the biggest weight room that I have ever seen by far. It was all real cool, it's The Swamp. It was kind of weird being there because I have seen it on TV but now I was there in person."

For Shaw and his family there was no question the best part of the trip was the time they spent with the head Gator Urban Meyer.

"I think that Ohio State had a built in advantage because it felt like I spent more time at Ohio State I guess because it was a night game. It seems like I did anyway. Coach Meyer more than made up for it though with the time that we spent together talking with me and my family. Talking to Coach Meyer was the coolest part of our trip. Coach Meyer and I have been emailing each other so I had a pretty good idea of what he was all about but meeting him in person was great."

Shaw's mother had an important message for the head Gator.

"My mom told Coach Meyer that she felt real comfortable with sending me to Florida. She would have no problem with that at all because of the kind of person that coach Meyer is."

While the score might have been lower than what some predicted Shaw has a very simple explanation for that.

"I think coach Kiffin was slowing it down so the score wouldn't get out of hand. Maybe he was smart for doing that but when it's run on first and second down and third and long I mean don't you need to throw it."

Shaw has plans to visit Notre Dame when they host USC as well as Oklahoma in the near future possibly against Oklahoma State. He will also trip to Michigan as they host Ohio State.
