Ronald Powell is 6-5 and 250-pounds and has run as low as 4.6. He is the nation's No. 4 ranked player and the nation's No. 2 ranked defensive end. The five-star Powell is also the top ranked player on the West Coast.
"I'm just chilling right now," Powell said. "Our season is going great. We are sitting at 3-0 and have a big game this week. I have been playing middle linebacker but at the next level I am a defensive end all the way. I want to rush the passer."
Powell was on hand as the Gators hosted the Volunteers this past Saturday.
"It was a great experience for me to be in The Swamp for the game. It was real packed. I had a chance to get to know some other recruits better like Sharrif Floyd, Josh Shaw, Mack Brown, Jeff Luc and Matt Elam. To be around those players in The Swamp was great."
Powell has grown extremely close to both head coach Urban Meyer and defensive line coach Dan McCarney.
"I am real cool with Coach Meyer and Coach McCarney and our relationship is real good so we were just having basic conversations about the game and stuff like that. I was in the locker room with the defensive line before and after the game and it was a great experience. After the game all the running backs, wide receivers and defensive line players were all hanging out in groups that was pretty cool to see."
Powell has spent some time with Sharrif Floyd and talked about the possibility of playing with the big defensive tackle at Florida.
"I was with Sharrif at Friday Night Lights, the Top Gun Camp and now at the Florida/Tennessee game. It would be a great experience if Sharrif comes to Florida with Mack Brown and all those other players and if I go there. If I went and was a part of that we would be starting our own tradition together when all these great leaders would be leaving. We would be starting our own thing and would have great leadership."
Powell has no time table set for his decision and it appears to be a two team race between the Florida Gators and USC.
