Mack Ready for the Challenge

Five-star running back Mack Brown from Lithonia (GA) MLK High School checks in at 5-11 and 192-pounds. Combining a rare blend of great power and incredible speed (4.38), Brown is rated as the nation's No. 4 running back.

On the season, MLK supports a perfect record at 6-0 in large part to Mack Brown's ability to carry his team. Facing eight- and nine-man fronts week in and week out, Brown has been able to handle the load to a tune of 556 yards on 84 carries and six touchdowns. He missed the Douglass game and a total of four complete quarters throughout the other five games due to blowouts. Through four games played Brown is averaging 21 carries and 139 yards per game for an average of 6.6 yards per carry. Not only has it been frustrating for Brown but his head coach Corey Jarvis.

"It's been a little frustrating to face eight and nine man fronts but that's what it is. As long as Mack is here teams are going game plan to try and stop him."

One of those teams will be Stephenson as they take on MLK High School this Friday night. Brown talked about the excitement level he has facing a team as talented as Stephenson.

"We can't worry about all the cameras and distractions that are going to be out there. I believe in our team and we are ready for the challenge ahead of us."

Brown is a very quiet and humble person off the field and he and the rest of his teammates have had this game circled for a long time.

"To play a team the caliber of Stephenson with that much talent is going to be a great challenge for us. We have worked hard all year and need to go out and play our A-game and don't worry about anything else."

In addition to only playing a handful of quarters this season Brown also had a few touchdowns called back. I had a chance to see one of those runs against then No. 1 ranked SW Dekalb in the season opener. Brown showed great patience through the line making defenders miss then put a move on the safety leaving him diving for air as he went untouched into the end zone. It totaled 26 yards and happened in a blink of an eye. When Brown gets into the open field there is not a more dangerous running back in all of America. He possesses great speed and power but also has vision, balance and acceleration and that will be on display against Stephenson in this weekend's contest.
