South Notebook: Five-Star Update

Out of the top 50 prospects in the country, 16 come from the South. Seven of the elite seniors remain uncommitted, but one is closing in on his decision. Find out the latest on each one and who could commit first here.

The South is loaded year after year and some of the best in the country still have not made their decision.

Here is the latest on each of the seven uncommitted five-stars in the South.

Five-Star Update
Marcus Lattimore – Running Back – Duncan, S.C.
National Ranking: 2
Schools of Interest: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, and South Carolina
The Skinny: The fifth and final official visit for Lattimore is still a mystery, but it will likely be between Georgia and North Carolina. He has visited Columbia a number of times and it is closest to home, so he feels he doesn't need to take an official visit to South Carolina. The Gamecocks still are still the favorites to land Lattimore, but he is playing everything close to the vest.

Projected Commitment Time: Look for Lattimore to announce on National Signing Day.

Jeff Luc – Linebacker – Port St. Lucie, Fla.
National Ranking: 6
Schools of Interest: He has visited Tennessee and USC officially and he said last week that he planned to visit Florida and LSU as well. That leaves one final official visit and he said Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, and Ohio State were schools under consideration.
The Skinny: Odds are still higher that he will end up staying in state than leaving the state, but the number may have dropped some over the last month. Tennessee made a huge impression on Luc and you can't ever count the Trojans out. Scout still projects Luc to end up at Florida or FSU at this time.

Projected Commitment Time: This all depends on if Luc is able to enroll early or not. He should find that out soon, but if he can, then will decide in December, but if can't then look for a decision in January.

Corey Lemonier – Defensive End – Hialeah, Fla.
National Ranking: 8
Schools of Interest: Auburn, Florida State, Illinois, Miami, and Tennessee.
The Skinny: This has gone back and forth over the last couple of months. Illinois has a chance to steal one out of Florida here and they are still a legit contender for Lemonier, but Miami has really come on strong with a big 2009 season. The Hurricanes are close to home and The U has a slight edge right now even though Lemonier says his final five are all even.

Projected Commitment Time: Lemonier stated this week that he will commit on National Signing Day.

Christian Green – Wide Receiver – Tampa, Fla.
National Ranking: 21
Schools of Interest: Florida, Florida State, Georgia, and South Florida
The Skinny: He has visited Georgia officially and plans to visit the other three in due time. This one looked like it would be over back in the summer, but it has gone on a longer than expected. It was a battle between the Seminoles and Gators much of 2009, but the Bulls and Bulldogs have become players now. It still looks like in the end he will be in Garnet and Gold or Orange and Blue with the Noles still getting the edge from Scout because of his familiarity to that program.

Projected Commitment Time: This one could be done in 2009 or he may choose to take it into 2010.

Lamarcus Joyner – Cornerback – Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
National Ranking: 22
Schools of Interest: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC are the schools Joyner listed when asked recently.
The Skinny: The list of favorites has constantly changed for Joyner over the past six months and the school to beat has as well. While FSU and Ohio State are still strong players, Florida could be the school the others are chasing right now. Alabama and Southern Cal are long shots and Notre Dame may have a slight chance, but it will come down to the Buckeyes, Gators, and Seminoles. Urban Meyer's program has come on strong lately.

Projected Commitment Time: Joyner could be ready to commit by late December.

Michael Dyer – Running Back – Little Rock, Ark.
National Ranking: 28
Schools of Interest: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
The Skinny: It is an SEC battle for this Arkansas star and it really looks to be a battle of two programs inside the SEC West. The in-state Razorbacks and Tigers of Auburn look like they are going head to head for Dyer and the program out of state may be the one leading. It is very close and Dyer said he will take all visits, but Gene Chizik has a real shot with this one.

Projected Commitment Time: November 6.

Chris Dunkley – Wide Receiver – Pahokee, Fla.
National Ranking: 35
Schools of Interest: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, USC, and West Virginia.
The Skinny: Dunkley has taken official visits to Georgia and West Virginia, but those two are long shots. The odds on favorite for Dunkley's signature is Florida and they have led from the beginning. The Gators hold a large lead just three plus months away from Signing Day and they will be hard to catch. Many suspect he may be a silent commit to UF and Scout is not ready to say that, but it is likely he signs with Urban Meyer's program come February.

Projected Commitment Time: Dunkley mentioned recently that he may commit at the Under Armour All-American game on January 2.
