Gators D will be Full Strength on Saturday

The Florida Gators defensive end Justin Trattou is tough. He was told his biceps injury he suffered against Arkansas on Oct. 24 would require four- to-six weeks of recovery time. He started working in individual drills earlier this week, and head coach Urban Meyer announced Thursday Trattou will play Saturday against Georgia — two weeks before he was supposed to.

"Trattou is going to play Saturday. It's unbelievable," Meyer said. "He's one of the toughest guys I've been around."

The injury is a ruptured biceps tendon and Meyer said it is pain problem, not a structural issue.

"It's painful, but it's a structural injury," Meyer said. "It's an injury you can fight through."

Along with Trattou, the Gators' defense gets LB Brandon Spikes and DTs Lawrence Marsh and Jaye Howard back. All three defenders were starters at the beginning of the year and have participated in practices this week.

……

- The Gators will have Jeff Demps available Saturday. The running back injured his neck against Mississippi State but participated in practice this week. "Demps went full speed."

……

- CB Moses Jenkins is still out because of a concussion he suffered against Kentucky on Sept. 26. Jenkins played primarily on special teams. "Moses Jenkins still hasn't practiced. He had a procedure done. Something Louis Murphy had — he had headaches for quite awhile."

……

- The special teams will also be without Wondy Pierre-Louis. The backup cornerback injured his hamstring against Mississippi State.

……

- Some of the freshmen offensive linemen could be cracking the rotation this weekend. Meyer said Xavier Nixon could see time at left tackle and Sam Robey could get reps at center.

……

- The kicking competition has been reopened after Caleb Sturgis missed a field goal for the third straight game. "They both kicked really well today, so I'm not sure what I'll do Saturday."

……

- The Gators are still looking for some of their young receivers to step up to provide them with depths. Meyer said Omarius Hines and Frankie Hammond are getting close. "Hammond is coming on and so is Hines. The receivers have had as good as a week as we have had."

……

- LB Brendan Beal still cannot get himself healthy. The redshirt freshman has suffered from elbow and neck issues. "He has a bulged disc in his neck that they thought would be better. It's slowly getting better, but it's just taking more time."

……

- Meyer was pleased with his team's effort in practice. After two days of hard work in the heat, the Gators are ready to get into the game weekend. "The fun starts tomorrow. Tuesday, Wednesday is nothing but a grind, not a whole lot pep in their steps."
