L-Dog a Gator Forever

Not many people have come through the Gator Football program that can match the athletic performance and personality of Lawrence Wright. The "L-Dog" is one of the great success stories in Gator annals, growing up dirt poor in South Florida, heading to a prep school and changing his allegiance form the Miami Hurricanes to the Gators set Wright on a path of success that he continues on to this day.

Lawrence Wright got a Jim Thorpe Award, four SEC Championship rings, a national championship ring, and this weekend was inducted into the Florida/Georgia Hall of Fame based in part on his superb performance against Georgia in Athens in 1995.

Wright had one of the most remarkable and entertaining interception returns in school history against West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl and one of the most memorable hits even on Tennessee's Joey Kent. But perhaps his longest lasting Gator legacy will be the chant he got going at the celebration of the 1996 National Title when he rollicked the crowd with the memorable phrase, "If you're not a Gator, you must be Gator Bait."

Last Friday I spoke with Wright on my Gainesville radio show (M-F 4-6 p.m., am850.com) about going into the Hall, the Florida/Georgia rivalry and more. I hope you enjoy listening in.
