Five-Star Young Visits Gainesville Again

Jacksonville (FL) Providence HS senior Patric Young was in Gainesville this weekend to check out the Gators play. The basketball power forward loves his Gators and just stopped over to watch the football team win another conference game against Vanderbilt. Young got a little tired and left early, but plans on making another trip soon.

The early signing period starts on Wednesday (Nov. 11) and the Gators are expected to get Young's paperwork in that day or soon thereafter. Patric Young and his teammates have an exhibition practice on Friday and will announce at least two of the team's players and their intentions.

"I am signing Friday...we are having a Midnight madness thing going on," Young said. "We might sign before."

Young and the likes of Kentucky bound Stacey Poole are headliners to a good team that Young thinks has a chance to do some special things this year.

"We started practicing this week on Monday," he said. "We are looking pretty good. We have a lot of athletic guys that will pay D-1 basketball in the future.

Young will play center for his team because that is where they need him. He returns after averaging 17 rebounds and about 12 points a game in 2008-2009. He came to Gainesville to soak in the athletic atmosphere one more time.

"I came to Gainesville just for a few hours (on Saturday)," he said. "It wasn't as exciting as other visits because I just came up for the football game and left at halftime. The game was so boring, normally they are better than that.

He is a Gator through and through and attends a bunch of games and saves the memories.

"I have been to six football games and was at the Florida-Georgia game last weekend," he said. "I keep all my football and basketball tickets and put them on my wall."

Young will also be back this weekend. He will be looking at a possible future teammate that will be in Gainesville as well.

"I will have a good time next week when Brandon Knight will be up there," he said. "We are just going up there to watch (the Gator team) work out."

Young was supposed to run into a couple of others during the Vandy game, but only saw one high profile recruit.

"C.J. Leslie didn't show up but Ray McCallum was there," he said. "I met him briefly and know him a little from camps."

Young will be on campus a lot more to see what it is going to be like to be a Gator. He wants badly to get out and experience it.

"I can't wait to get on my own and not having to be as dependent on my parents any more," he said. "I don't know what to expect about the team, but I am really excited to be a part of it."

He knows he has what head coach Billy Donovan wants in his power forwards.

"I bring a lot of passion and I run up and down the floor well," he said.
