Gators Earn National Ranking

Florida's wins over Florida State and Michigan State last week have propelled Billy Donovan's team into the USA Today Coaches' Poll. Florida earns its first national ranking with the No. 17 spot in the poll released Monday afternoon.

The Gators are going to have plenty of more chances to impress voters in the weeks and months ahead. Florida will play No. 7 Syracuse in Tampa a week from Thursday and have two games against No. 4 Kentucky, No. 12 Tennessee and No. 29 Vanderbilt. Future opponents Ole Miss and Richmond also received votes this week.

The AP Poll came out shortly thereafter and the media was even more impressed with Donovan's 6-0 team. Florida is ranked No. 13 in the AP while FSU checked in at No. 21 despite its loss to Florida.

"Here in November I think we've played against a really good schedule and I think we've played some quality teams and we've done well up to this point in time," head coach Billy Donovan said. "Whether or not we deserve to be ranked that high I'm not sure. I think as long as we continue to keep in the right frame of mind and we continue to work on the things we need to improve on that's going to be the most important thing going forward."

The Gators return to action Tuesday night in the O'Dome against winless FAMU.
