Gators Staying Focused on Saturday

As if the Florida Gators didn't already have enough to think about heading into Saturday's matchup with Alabama, defensive coordinator Charlie Strong's name has surfaced in rumors as a candidate for the Louisville head coaching job. Despite the possible distraction, Florida head coach Urban Meyer doesn't expect it to take away from the team's focus and will deal with the issue more next week.

Meyer is used to other schools trying to get his assistant coaches.

"I don't have a lot of thought about it, but next week obviously. We have lost five coaches here in the two years," Meyer said. "Charlie is not only a great coach, he is one my great friends."

He has not discussed the possible job with Strong yet and doesn't expect to until after the Alabama game. Meyer said Strong and some of the other coaches are the types other schools look for.

"That doesn't help focus. That's just part of the business. There's two kinds of coaches: ones you want and ones you don't want. Unfortunately, I have a few people want," Meyer said.

- Meyer said suspended DE Carlos Dunlap will not travel with the team to Atlanta.

- RB Emmanuel Moody will play Saturday after missing the last two games with a sprained ankle he suffered at South Carolina.

- Meyer said DE Jermaine Cunningham will play despite his shoulder not being fully healed. "(Cunningham's shoulder) is still not 100 percent but that's a tough guy."

- Meyer said DT Jaye Howard, who will play a part in replacing Dunlap, has had a great week of practice.

- Meyer talked about his attempt to get a coaching job on Nick Saban's Toledo staff when Meyer was just a graduate assistant at Illinois State. "I didn't until I read that, someone e-mailed it to me. I looked at it, and that's true. I was actually at Illinois State as a linebacker coach, and someone gave me their number, matter of fact I think someone on the staff did. That was so long ago, and he didn't hire me."

- Meyer also discussed Alabama's improved passing game. "I think they struggled a little earlier in the pass game. They are throwing it very effectively right now. They won that game against Auburn by throwing the ball in the second half. They are a very good screen team, and it's not just Julio, No. 4 is a hell of a player too."
