Watkins Back from Gainesville

Cape Coral (FL) superstar Jaylen Watkins is the nation's No. 4 ranked cornerback prospect according to Scout.com. A true playmaker on either side of the ball it's on defense where he will make his impact felt for the Florida Gators. The 6-0 and 175-pounder with 4.4-speed recently took his official visit to Gainesville.

"My mom and I drove up on Friday night and it was about 8:00 when we got to head coach Urban Meyer's house," Jaylen Watkins said. "My dad came over on Saturday from Orlando. It is great to have a coach like Urban Meyer that welcomed us into his home like family. My mom and I had a great time on Friday and it was probably the best time I have ever had. It was amazing that he invited us into his home.

"I was the only corner that came up so coach Bedford and I spent a lot of time talking with each other and getting to know each other better. The experience of all the players being in his house from the team and the recruits was such a family atmosphere you couldn't do anything but talk to all the players. Some of the players I wasn't even sure who they were but it's so family oriented you can only have a great time in that atmosphere. I had a chance to spend a lot of time with Frankie Hammond, Andre Debose and Adrian Bushell."

Saturday was more of the same but this time his father was on hand.

"Saturday was probably the best overall day for me. We started out with breakfast at the stadium and lunch later on. We took a tour of everything from the lockers, weight room and the dorms. All the coaches and players made it great. We saw the Pounceys, Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps."

Sunday the Watkins family had one more chance to soak it all in.

"On Sunday we went back to coach Meyer's house and at one point my dad and I were talking about how fortunate and lucky we were to have an opportunity like this before us. We were talking about all the players that would love to have this kind of chance with a team like Florida. I talked to my dad about taking full advantage of this opportunity before me. My dad loved being over there and we all had a great time."

Watkins is a playmaker and he has speed to do a lot of damage in the open field. He is elusive in space, he has the speed to be a vertical threat, and he could play inside or outside at wide out. One of the most attractive things about Watkins is his toughness - he could play corner as well on the next level and he does not mind contact. His ability to run and change direction make him a high level recruit. - Chad Simmons - South Recruiting Analyst
