Gators Finish No. 3

The Florida Gator football team finished third in both of the two major polls following Thursday night's BCS Title Game. The Gators jumped undefeated Boise State in the final tally, but remained behind BCS National Champion Alabama and runner-up Texas.

The Gators are the first SEC team in 30 years to finish in the top three of the AP rankings three times in four years. The Gators, of course finished No. 1 last year as well as in 2006. It's also the fourth top four AP ranking for coach Urban Meyer whose Utah team claimed the No. 4 spot at the end of the 2004 season.

Florida ended up playing two top 10 teams in Alabama and Cincinnati plus LSU which finished No. 17 in both polls. The Gators strength of schedule was further evidenced by three opponents that received votes in both polls in Georgia (33/32), FSU (34/38) and Arkansas (38/36).

Overall this is the seventh time the Gators have finished in the top three of the AP rankings. The Gators also accomplished the feat in 1984 (No. 3), 1995 (No. 2), 1996 (No. 1) and 2001.
