Elam Back Where He Belongs

Matt Elam from Palm Beach Gardens (FL) William T. Dwyer has always known he wanted to be a Gator. It was a bumpy ride at times but deep down his relationship with Urban Meyer was the difference.

The 6-1 and 205-pound safety and five-star player had his heart set on Gainesville until head coach Urban Meyer mentioned he might step away from the program. The No. 1 safety according to Scout.com has had a tough and confusing past several weeks.

Walking away from Florida and announcing for in-state arch rival wasn't easy but at the end of the day his heart was with the Gators.

Matt Elam could have gone anywhere in the country. He is the No. 1 player in the state of Florida, the No. 1 safety in America and clearly a five-star type of player. Elam solidifies what will be the consensus No. 1 class in the country.

Scout.com Take:
Already one of the top 2010 players in the state of Florida, Elam is fun to watch. He is extremely versatile and appears to relish taking on more and more responsibility. Very effective at RB, he has the patience to let the play develop and the extra gear necessary to exploit creases and cutback lanes. Defensively, Elam plays downhill and seeks contact. Is always in position to make plays and finishes well--Burke Hayes
