Christian Westerman's offer list is as impressive as you will find for any player in next year's class. Currently holding offers from Oklahoma, Florida State, Miami, Arkansas, Michigan, NAU, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Florida, UCLA, Arizona State, Arizona, Stanford, Oregon State, Washington, Cal, USC, Georgia, Auburn, North Carolina and Oregon.
He also said that Ohio State is close to offering and he's hearing a lot from Alabama.
Westerman has the kind of mental and physical makeup you look for in your offensive linemen.
"Great get off, great strength, quick feet, solid pass pro, ability to run and get down field to the next level. I want to keep getting stronger, dominate the line of scrimmage on every play."
Westerman met his goals during his junior season but he has set the bar high moving forward.
"I am always working to get better though, I want to be a five-star and be the truth. I want to 'jump off the screen' when you watch my highlight film with domination and pancake blocks. We won our second consecutive state championship at the 5A1 level and I want a third."
Westerman has gone against the very best defensive end prospects for the class of 2010 at some of the nation's top camps.
"I performed very well at the Texas camp in June, had a very good showing at the Arizona and ASU camps here locally in Arizona. I really wanted to bring my A-game to the USC camp and prove that I could shut down the five-star defensive ends who were in attendance. I really did well and got to compete against some of the very best in high school. I had fun going against some great players like Ronald Powell and Jackson Jeffcoat who I respect immensely. They were very excellent players and fun to play against. I really improved by the experience."
Westerman and his family have built some strong relationships with more than a few coaching staffs over the last 12 months.
"I am very close to the Nebraska coaches, I also have a solid relationship with Coach McWhorter (OL Coach) from Texas. I have solid ties with ASU coach Smith, U of A Coach Bedenbaugh, and I had some solid ties with USC coaches (Carroll and Ruel) but not sure about that one now. I look forward to getting to know the other coaches once the time comes that they can contact me per NCAA rules and I can get to know them better. I know the relationship with my O-line coach will be a special one so I really want to get to know the coaches better."
Westerman has plenty of options moving forward.
"I am still open to the offers that I have received and remain honored by the early interest from each school. There is still a lot of time to consider and I want to really talk to my coaches and my parents about the balance I am looking for with College, academics and future. There is always a chance for the landscape of college football to change drastically from year to year, example USC, Notre Dame, etc., so I want to watch what happens over the next year and settle in to a top five and take some visits.
"Florida is definitely in that mix and I would love to see what plays out over the next year. I have been asked to play in both all-American games and am also excited at that opportunity next January. It is an honor to be able to be in the position to choose between the UA game and the U.S. Army game."
