Gators Looking at Large Pool of Receivers

The Florida Gators will zero in on a few players in the class of 2011 at the wide receiver position. Here are the early candidates in no particular order.

At 6-6 and 210-pounds, Kelvin Benjamin from Belle Glade (FL) Glades Central is one of the tallest wide receivers in this year's class. He is very smooth and has great hands. Early indications are that Florida will be in the mix until the end.

One of the most complete wide receivers is Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra High School superstar George Farmer. At 6-2 and 200-pounds with great speed Farmer is the complete package.

At 6-2 and 185-pounds, Quinta Funderburk recently received an offer from the Gators and likes the Gators in the early going. He is from Chesapeake (VA) Oscar F. Smith High School.

A combine standout, Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas standout Rashad Greene has had the Gators near the top of his list since last season. Greene is 6-1 and 170-pounds and has legit 4.45 speed.

One of the smaller wideouts in this year's class is Javares McRoy. Checking in at 5-9 and 165-pounds from Lakeland (FL) High School, McRoy is electric with the ball in his hands and is perfect in the spread.

One out-of-state wideout that is drawing attention from the Gator coaching staff is 6-3 and 180-pound Charone Peake. Peake is from Spartanburg (SC) Dorman High School. Early favorites are Clemson, Georgia and Florida. South Carolina could be a sleeper for one of the South's top playmakers.

One of the wide receivers with the most upside is Fort Myers (FL) South Fort Myers superstar Sammy Watkins. Watkins checks in at 6-2 and 190-pounds with true 4.45 speed. Watkins a two-way standout has the Gators and Hurricanes as two of his early favorites.

The nation's No. 1 overall ranked wide receiver is Kasen Williams. Williams was at Friday Night Lights last season and is from Issaquah (WA) Skyline High School. He checks in at 6-2 and 200-pounds. He runs great routes and makes the game appear easy.

Another Peach state standout is Valdosta's (GA) Malcolm Mitchell. Mitchell will attend junior day at Florida and checks in at 6-1 and 180-pounds.

Williams, Farmer and Watkins are 1-2-3 in the nation at the wide receiver position.
