2011 Linebacker Board is Loaded

The 2011 recruiting class is very deep across the board. One of my favorite positions in this year's class in the linebacker position. Early indications are the Gators will look to land three to four linebackers in 2011. At this point in the recruiting cycle here are a few names to keep an eye on at the linebacker position.

At 6-2 and 220-pounds, Stephone Anthony from Anson (NC) is one of the most coveted linebackers in the region. Big, fast and athletic there isn't much he can't do from his backer position. Anthony can play all backer positions making him very attractive as a prospect. He is a 4.0 student and ranked as the nation's No. 3 ranked outside linebacker and five-stars according to Scout.com.

Coral Gables (FL) is home to 5-11 and 210-pound Denzel Perryman who was one of the top linebackers in last year's class as a junior. Perryman is as fast and athletic as any backer in the country. Perryman has offers from the Big Three as well as Georgia, BC, Tennessee and a host of other schools. He had more than 230 tackles the last two seasons.

Anthony Wallace from Dallas (TX) Skyline is one of the top overall "big" linebackers. He is your prototype middle linebacker at 6-2 and 235-pounds running in the 4.55 range. He is built to take and deliver the pain. He is the nation's No. 4 ranked middle linebacker.

Not to be outdone the nation's No. 1 ranked middle linebacker resides in Detroit (MI) Renaissance. Checking in at 6-4 and 230-pounds is Lawrence Thomas. On the Florida offer Thomas told Scout.com's Allen Trieu "Man, I'm just too excited," he said, "Florida! It is like my dream is really coming true. All of these big time colleges are after me. I'm just excited." Thomas will be visiting Florida during March.

Another out-of-state linebacker with a Florida offer is Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra superstar Jason Gibson. Gibson checks in at 6-2 and 210-pounds. He is the nation's No. 6 ranked outside linebacker prospect.

The Carolina's are loaded in 2011 with tons of prospects like Gastonia (NC) Ashbrook superstar Norkeithus Otis. Otis checks in at 6-3 and 200-pounds and is one of most wanted players regardless of position in the region.

At 6-1 and 225-pounds, Tony Steward from St. Augustine (FL) Pedro Menendez playmaker will be one of the most heavily recruited backers in the Southeast.

Next up is Williston (SC) Eklo superstar Dexter Staley. Staley checks in at 6-2 and 225-pounds and could play inside or outside.

One of the top middle linebackers in the country is James Vaughters. Vaughters is 6-2 and 220-pounds checking in from Tucker (GA).

Probably the least known linebacker with a Florida offer at this time is College Park (GA) North Clayton standout Amarlo Herrera. Herrera checks in at 6-2 and 215-pounds and registered more than 150 tackles his junior season.

One player to keep an eye on is Miami (FL) Columbus linebacker Anthony Rabasa. Rabasa checks in at 6-3 and 220-pounds.
