Watkins Excels on Both Sides of the Ball

At 6-2 and 190-pounds, Sammy Watkins is one of the more physical wide receivers in the state of Florida from the class of 2011. Currently the Nation's third ranked wide out Watkins from Fort Myers (FL) South is coming off an outstanding junior season.

Sammy Watkins ended his junior season with 46 catches for 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns. When you average more than 25 yards per catch you will be one of the most heavily recruited offensive players in America and he is.

Currently holding offers from Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, USC and Michigan to name a few, he will be the most heavily recruited players regardless of position in the state of Florida.

As good as he is at the wide receiver position Watkins is equally impressive from his safety position. He is very physical, fast and has great range. Watkins plays defense at a very high level and his aggressive play carries over to the offensive side of the ball making him one of the top two-way standouts in the country. Look for the final two teams standing to be the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Gators.

Scout.com Take:
Watkins makes the game look easy, he is one of the top WR prospects in the country featuring size, speed, and tremendous hands. He has an extra gear to turn to when he needs it. Watkins ability to get downfield or take a short pass the distance is what separates him from the pack as a prospect. He should be not be stopped in the red zone. Watkins also plays Safety where he shows terrific instincts. -Geoff Vogt, Florida Recruiting Analyst
