Academics, Comfort Key for Vaughters

At 6-2 and 230-pounds with 4.5 speed, James Vaughters from Tucker (GA) is one of the most heavily recruited players in America from the class of 2011. He holds offers from some of the nation's finest programs such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford and USC.

James Vaughters comes from a great family and he has his head on straight. I was able to spend some time with his mother and father at a recent combine and they have a very direct approach to the recruiting process and will not get caught up in any sort of nonsense moving forward.

Academics will play a huge factor for the Vaughters' family as will the comfort factor among the coaches at the particular school of choice. There were more than a few players that missed the Florida junior day due to inclement weather but James Vaughters and his father were able to attend. They had a great time and learned more about the university of this past trip than previous trips.

Florida made them feel very important and that will go a long way in determining if the Gators have a realistic shot at landing the nation's No. 2 ranked middle out of the Peach State. The addition of coach D.J. Durkin will help the Florida cause in their pursuit of Vaughters.

Coach Durkin was responsible for recruiting James Vaughters when he was coaching for Stanford last season. This decision will not be taken lightly with the amount of research the Vaughters' family will and has done on each school on the list. At this point they are exploring all options and one team will be very happy come National Signing Day. Take:

Vaughters has natural size and ability that will make him a national recruit. He could end up at linebacker or defensive end on the next level. His strength, athleticism, and discipline are three very big strengths of his. He still could grow into a defensive end and that is where he plays now, so if he moves to LB in college, he will need to work on dropping back in coverage and shedding blocks on the second level. - Chad Simmons
