Recruiting News & Nuggets

Spring is in full effect as numerous prospects across the Southeast and the rest of the country are taking spring break vacation. A number of them have or are planning to visit the University of Florida.

"I went to practice yesterday (3/27) and we talked and I got Coach White's number and I will start calling him once a week to start building a relationship. I got an idea of how they run practice, the excitement and the competition." --A.C. Leonard

"Yea, we talk a lot. I am going up there on April 2. I like UF it means a lot to have that offer because they are always going to be good and they will definitely be there in the end." --Phillip Dorsett

"I just talked to him it went well." Max Wittek spoke with Florida QB Coach Scot Loeffler last night. Wittek also added offers from Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State and Nebraska.

A few kids to keep an eye on moving forward for a variety of reasons:

-- RB Miles Shuler, a 5-10, 173-pound, 4.38 speed demon

-- The nation's No. 10 rated defensive tackle Phillip Dukes from Manning (SC)

-- Linebacker Lamar Dawson has interest in the Gators and if he gets an offer would visit

-- Phillip Dorsett (latest offer from Georgia) and Rashad Greene.

Dawson is from Kentucky and probably the top linebacker in the state and checks in 6-3, 235-pounds.

Ja'Juan Story will be heading to UF to meet up with Coach Meyer in the near future. The only two places he has visited Florida State and South Florida. He has not been out that much and wants to take some visits.

Both Trip Thurman and Joel Hale loved their visits to Gainesville last week, Thurman is waiting on the Gators to come watch him during spring practice and see if they offer. Hale is somewhat in the same boat as far as waiting on the Gators to see if they are going to offer or not.

Buck Allen was a no show for the second time this past weekend. Superstar Sammy Watkins had a great visit with the Gators this past weekend. Sammy does not like the media attention, interviews, but the Gators are squarely in the mix but like I have mentioned in the past is no slam dunk. If the Canes were to pull the trigger on his teammate Dallas Crawford things could become very interesting.

Both Mike Blakely and Ryan Shazier were both at practice today (March 29) and we will catch up with both for in depth interviews later this week. Shazier from Plantation is one of the most athletic players in the state of Florida for 2011 and is very underrated at this time. He has tons of upside and projects at OLB. Shazier is looking at a number of schools but does like the Gators a good deal.

"We got here about 2:30, my dad, cousin and little brother. We went and watched practice and it was real nice and intense I liked it a lot. My dad liked the practice a bunch. After practice we had a chance to sit down and eat and speak with both Coach Durkin and Coach Azzanni. We were talking about how they see me fitting in and things like that. I talked to Urban for a little while and he likes me at outside linebacker. He was telling me how much he liked my tape and he seems like a real cool coach. I liked it a lot and gave it an A++."

Ryan Shazier:

"It's going good meeting all the coaches."

Brandon Fulse at Florida practice today as well as tight end Austin Edward Seferian-Jenkins from Gig Harbor in Washington. Austin spent a good deal of time with tight end coach Brian White.

Mike Blakely is somewhat in the same position, the running back from Manatee in Bradenton (FL). He checks in at 5-9 and 195-pounds and runs in the 4.45 range. Blakely is very close with Ace Sanders and could very well end up at South Carolina.

Bobby Hart added two more offers with Stanford and Oklahoma coming in recently and Florida State is recruiting him the most right now. Anthony Rabasa added LSU as well as Duke and Gionni Paul added both Ole Miss and Memphis. USC, Stanford and South Florida all offered La'el Collins.

"I wouldn't say I am done but I still am open to everyone who is recruiting me. They (Florida) are recruiting me a little bit and yes I am interested in them."

"I just had a visit with Florida State this weekend. The trip went very well they seemed very interested in me and they want me to go to a camp this Summer but I really want to go to one at Florida as well." --Deiontrez Mount

"I have not got any offers in a while. I think I am going to the Florida spring game. Probably Florida, Auburn, Tennessee and LSU recruiting me the most." --Jeff Driskel

"I should be visiting Florida on April 6." --Braxton Miller

"Florida sent me some mail inviting me to summer camp, I went to the Nike camp yesterday with my teammate Chris Johnson." --Edsel Caprice

Johnson is a 6-1 and 185-pound safety prospect.

Caprice was working out at linebacker and is in the 6-2 and 185-pound range.

Five-star running back Jameel Poteat told me that Wisconsin was the latest team to offer.
