Spring Highlights: Defensive Tackles

The defensive tackle position was kind of a two edged sword for Florida this spring. On one hand there is a great deal of experience and three seniors that may not need a lot of practice, on the other, all three of those seniors were injured and missed the entire spring creating a great lack of depth for the spring and not allowing those guys to mature even more.

The two that are expected to start performed well. Here are some highlights from the spring of the position.

Junior Jaye Howard and sophomore Omar Hunter were two staples at defensive tackle all spring for the Gators and they will most likely be the starters on opening day in the fall. Hoard was recovering from an injury that saw him a little out of shape at the start of spring, but he still made plays. Hunter was in the best shape he has been in since his arrival on campus two years ago.

Earl Okine rotated inside and outside this spring. The sophomore with what seems unlimited physical ability started slow and after a little badgering from the staff, came on late in the practice sessions to do some things.

Leon Orr was the last scholarship defensive tackle on campus this spring and the true freshman that enrolled early from high school in January was recovering from an injury of his own to start the spring and missed about half of the sessions. He certainly showed that he is raw at the position and will require a great deal of technique to get better, but Orr also showed the physical freaky talents he has to one day be a special player in the middle of the defense.

It's a short highlight clip, but certainly has some tremendous plays to watch. We hope you enjoy.
