Profile 2004 - Jamar Buckley (LB)
Chris Leak is gone, but Independence High School does not plan on relinquishing its strangle hold on the North Carolina State Championship. Jamar Buckley will have a lot to say about how far Independence goes this year. He totaled 186 tackles and 12 sacks from his outside linebacker position. He will likely play inside on the next level, unless he has an anticipate growth spurt.
"Man, I'd like to get taller," said Buckley. My brother is 6-7. My dad is 6-4. My mom is about 6-2, and I have an 11 year old sister that is already 5-10. I've had to play point guard in our pickup basketball games," Buckley added with a laugh.
He has the perfect size to play inside linebacker on the next level right now, but he could easily find himself on the defensive line if he catches his family in height.
"I like playing on the inside, but right now, the coaches say they need me on the outside because of my speed. I'll play wherever they need me."
Buckley is going to be busy this spring and summer on the camp circuit, and he will begin with his trip to Ann Arbor for the Nike Camp.
"My uncle told me that they will be in a dead period for that camp, and that I can get the most exposure up there. We have family up there too. I'm also going to get to a summer camp at Florida for sure. They're really my favorite team right now. I've just always liked Florida. I'm also looking at Alabama, Auburn, Miami, NC State, and Notre Dame early."
Buckley plays for one of the most successful programs in the country at Independence. He is already a good linebacker prospect at his size and speed, but look out if he grows into his full potential and matches his family's pattern of size.
