Softball One Win From CWS

The Gator softball team will take the field at 3:30 to try and earn its third straight trip to the College World Series. Florida (47-8) clubbed Arizona State 8-0 Saturday night and has two chances to earn a trip to Oklahoma City this afternoon.

The biggest difference between these teams in our scouting report was ASU gives up a lot of homers and the Gators hit a lot of homers. That part of the matchup played true to form last night as Florida got blasts from Brittany Schutte (16) and Corrie Brooks (10) during a six-run fifth inning that ended the opening contest of the Super Regional. Florida has now hit 102 HR on the season, while allowing just 18. By comparison Arizona State (44-16) has hit 72 HR, but Sun Devil pitchers have surrendered 55 long balls.

Two SEC teams, Georgia and Tennessee have already advanced to the CWS. Georgia took care of California at home while Tennessee stunned No. 2 Michigan up in Ann Arbor.

Alabama plays a one game winner-take-all with Hawaii this afternoon while the Gators have two shots at winning their Super Regional. Arizona and Washington have also punched their ticket to Oklahoma City.

The other two spots in the CWS will come down to UCLA/Louisiana-Lafayette and Missouri/Oregon. Missouri and UCLA are both up one game and have two chances to win today if necessary.
