NCAA Baseball Sites Announced Today

The Gator baseball team will almost certainly get confirmation today that they are one of 16 schools chosen as host sites for the NCAA Baseball Tournament that gets underway Thursday. The site announcement is made on the NCAA website and will also be posted along the ESPN ticker at 3:30.

Florida (42-15) is as close to a lock as possible to get a host spot with a top five ranking in every poll, a No. 2 RPI and No. 1 strength of schedule entering the week. Florida's resume will get a boost from its wins over Vanderbilt and Arkansas, and the losses to LSU and Alabama really shouldn't hurt at all.

Florida is also expected to get a top eight national seed which would set the Gators up to host a Super Regional should they advance.

The general consensus is that you should expect four SEC teams to be chosen as hosts with Florida and South Carolina at the top of the list. The other two sites will go to two of the following three --- Auburn, LSU or Arkansas.

Indications are that Miami will host and FSU will not, but that could change if FSU wins the ACC Tournament today. Both appear to project to have NCAA seeds in the 14-18 range. Three regionals in the state is possible but not likely. I would not be surprising at all to see FSU or Miami bracketed to face the Gators in the Super Regional.

The full NCAA field is announced Monday at 12:30.
