Tight End

The Scoop

The Gators were only able to land one tight end, Junior College standout David Kenner.  They lost DJ Norris from Pace, Florida to Florida State on Signing Day.  Kenner, from Pennsylvania, signed with the Gators back in December.  You can bet that this next recruiting season, tight end will be a high priority because there are not that many ends on campus.

Scouting Report

David Kenner (6-4, 255, 4.65) of Lackawanna Junior College signed with Florida is December.  He was one of the top tight ends from the JUCO ranks.  Kenner is a good receiver but is considered a better blocker than route runner and catcher.  But that's OK early at Florida because he compliments Ben Troupe very nicely.  Troupe is athletic and a very good receiver and playmaker and an average blocker.  Kenner does have soft hands and good speed for a 250+ pounder.  Kenner is already on campus and we will get a spring preview with him.

The Stats

In two seasons at Lackawanna, Kenner did score 16 touchdowns.  This past season, he had 30 receptions.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that David Kenner will play a ton of action this season.  Florida basically doesn't have many bodies at this position.  Troupe is a senior while OJ Small and Darrell Carpenter are juniors. This will be a need area for Florida recruiting for their class of 2004.
