FNL Player Preview: Kent Turene

Current USC commit, linebacker Kent Turene could turn out to be an interesting story as the 2011 recruiting season marches on.

My Take:

Kent Turene is a great looking prospect that has size, speed and plays at a very physical level that you want from all of your linebackers. Early on in the recruiting process it appeared that the Gators were the frontrunners for his services. The time table in which Turene wanted to make a decision was not conducive to the plans the Gator coaches had.

Fast forward to Friday Night Lights and the level of play in which Turene may or may not show will be the key in his opportunity to be a part of the Gator Nation.

I am under the belief that if he comes and displays the kind of ability the staff is looking for that he will not end up 3,000 miles away to play his college ball. However, both Curtis Grant and Stephone Anthony will play a vital role in determining what happens with Turene come National Signing Day.

Scout.com Biography:

Kent Turene finished his junior season with 120 tackles, 10 sacks, two interceptions and two fumbles caused. Turene says he can bench 345-pounds, squat 515 and has a 34-inch vertical jump.

Turene plans to major in either accounting or finance. He reports a 2.9 core GPA and a 24 ACT.

Turene: "I'm a great hitter and I'm fast to the ball. I have a passion for the game and I'm a good overall linebacker. I'm strong and I've been playing since I was little.

"I want to work on reading the offense better and anticipate things quicker. I also want to just understand the game better too."
