FNL Player Preview: Curt Maggitt

Curt Maggitt, a 6-3 and 210-pound outside linebacker/defensive end prospect, checks in from Palm Beach Gardens (FL) William T. Dwyer. Some schools would like to keep his weight right where it is and have him play outside linebacker. Other teams, as is the case with the University of Florida would like to have him bulk up and play defensive end.

My Take:

I see Curt Maggitt as a pass rushing specialist at the next level. He has an explosive first step that can't be taught. He can cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks and running backs with his speed and if he can add the weight and keep his quickness he could become a terror off the edge for offensive tackles.

He has a great relationship with the Florida coaches and that increases with each visit. Having three former teammates as Gators doesn't hurt the cause either with Gerald Christian, Matt Elam and Robert Clark.

The University of Florida should be considered the leader until Maggitt says differently. This is one that many Gator fans have been predicting for some time and there might not be a better place to do it then during his Friday Night Lights trip. While the Gators are the team to beat I am not sure that he will pull the trigger at that time.
