"I'm 6-6 and 260-pounds but look 230," Giorgio Newberry said. "I am determined to play defensive end at the next level. I will be at Friday Night Lights but not for sure if I will be able to work out because of an ankle problem."
Newberry holds offers from some of the nation's finest programs such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Rutgers, Central Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The University of Florida will continue to be in a holding pattern at the defensive line position with one currently committed player in Jeoffrey Pagan. Pagan will be at FNL and all should be well with the pass rushing specialist from North Carolina.
Clearly, Newberry would greatly benefit from a solid showing at Friday Night Lights but with the ankle issue that is still to be determined. Newberry is playing it close to the vest at this time but as he states above is determined to play only defensive end at the next level, which could limit his options moving forward. Some teams feel he can grow into either a defensive or offensive tackle. Showing the ability to play more than one position is something that has made Newberry one of the most heavily recruited players in the state of Florida.
While he is keeping all his options open keep a close eye on Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, LSU and Georgia.
