Black Gaining Early Attention

Top SEC and ACC schools are already giving some major attention to 2012 wide receiver Chris Black. At 5-11, 170 pounds, Black will be a desirable addition to any offense with a potent combination of lightning speed and dynamic skill. The rising junior at First Coast High School in Jacksonville says FSU leads right now. Florida and Clemson finish out his top three in that order.

Coming off an eye-catching performance at Florida's Friday Night Lights, Chris Black says he is feeling good about the Gators.

"It was great. There was a lot of competition out there. Really it was the most competition I've seen at any camp."

Even with a wealth of talent taking over The Swamp, Black was rarely challenged. Very few could catch this speedster.

Black says Florida State is at the top of his list because of the relationships he has been able to build with the coaching staff in Tallahassee.

"The coaches are always faithful to me and they show interest. I talk to coach (Lawrence) Dawsey all the time and he wants to know how I'm doing. I have the best relationship with FSU and Clemson coaches right now. Like, at Clemson I talk to coach (Jeff) Scott."

Here's what he had to say about Florida's coaching staff:

"I don't have as good of a relationship with them but I think it will get there. I talk with coach Scot Loeffler and he's pretty cool. We've been talking since they offered me in the spring. I really like Florida a lot. That's why they are my No. 2 school right now."

Black doesn't plan on making a decision until next year and says he will pull the trigger sometime before his senior season. He is waiting to see how everything plays out this year, but he is confident his current top three will be in the mix for his final destination.

"I know FSU, Florida and Clemson coaches will stay on me and those relationships will be even stronger when I want to make a choice. Even if other schools start getting my attention, those three will always be there."

As for a school he would like to see more of eventually, Black says he is interested in LSU.

"I haven't heard anything from them but I might want to visit and see what they're all about."

He plans on taking official visits to Florida, Florida State, Clemson and "a few other schools" this season but does not have concrete dates set yet. In the meantime, Black will work on making himself an even more talented offensive weapon.

"I just want to stay humble and improve as a player. I want at least five kick returns for touchdowns this season. I want 10 receiving touchdowns and I want more yards after the catch. Oh - and a state championship."
