Back / Defensive Back
Profile 2004 - CJ Barrows (RB/DB)
C.J. Barrows is one of the few big running backs in the state of Georgia this year. At 6-2 and 196 pounds as a high school junior, he has the potential to play at a much higher weight. The question though is, will he even play running back on the next level at all?
"I played running back in our wing-t offense," said Barrows. "I had about 930 yards on the season. I averaged 9.3 yards per carry, but you're not going to get a ton of carries in the wing-t," added Barrows with a laugh.
"I played some corner early in the season. I had 32 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Running back comes more naturally to me, but I really started getting in to playing defense. I like delivering the hits instead of absorbing them. I'd play either on the next level."
While he played corner as a junior, he would project as a safety, or even an outside linebacker with his size. He runs the forty at 4.5 flat, and as stated, he could easily be 220 pounds in college.
It's that type of potential that has led Florida to giving Barrows an early scholarship offer. Where do the Gators stack up in his favorites?
"I really thought that I was going to Florida all along. The plan was pretty much when Florida offered to go ahead and commit. But when I started getting mail from all of these other schools, it made me sit back and think about my options. Florida is still my favorite team, but I want to go where I have the best chance to play. After Florida I like Georgia, Texas, Southern Cal, and Auburn."
Barrows will likely have his choice of several of most of those schools by the time his senior season is over, but right now, Florida is the team to beat.
