Profile 2004 - Xavier Carter (WR)
Xavier Carter may have had the most impressive performance at any Nike Camp in the country last year. As a sophomore last April, he measured in at 6.25 and 190 pounds and turned in a blistering 4.35 forty time. I repeat, as a sophomore.
Carter's world class speed was put to good use by state champion Palm Bay. While Joe Cohen was the battering ram, Carter helped keep defenses honest by stretching the field with 23 catches for more than 800 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had four kick offs returned for touchdowns.
His speed may also get him a look at the 2004 Olympic Team. He won the 400 meter state title as a freshman. He won the 400 and 200 meter state titles as a sophomore, and he has bigger goals this spring as a junior.
"I ran a 10.3 hand timed on Tuesday night at our track meet," said Carter. "My goal this year is to win the state title in the 100, 200, and 400. Yeah, I'm thinking about trying to run in the Olympics in '04, but I also want to play football."
Carter will have a load of options to play football in '04. He has already picked up offers from Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Rutgers, and Virginia among others, and he will have a stack more before it's all said and done.
Who is this blazer looking at?
"My top 5 right now would probably be Miami, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, and Notre Dame. They're all about even right now."
Blessed with great size and extraordinary speed, Carter will have his chance to pick his destination on the next level.
