"Coach Addazio told me today that I'm the type of player they want and that I would fit in great at Florida. Then he said, let's just do this right now. He goes, ‘Chase, do you want to be a Gator?' At first, I was speechless but then I said ‘Heck yea.' Florida is it for me. I told them I won't be taking any visits unless they are to Gainesville. I'm 100 percent Gator," the Mentor, Ohio native said.
Chase Hounshell said he already knows what his role will be when he dons an Orange and Blue jersey.
"They want me as an offensive tackle. I see myself there in college too and it makes sense at Florida because they run the spread offense. They need athletic linemen and that's me. I'm fast so I will fit in great there."
Florida beat out Iowa, Boston College, Wisconsin, UCF, and Michigan State for the three-star OT. Hounshell said he won't think twice about this decision even though Gainesville is very far from home.
"It will be a completely different atmosphere from what I'm used to in Cleveland. Gainesville is probably opposite of Cleveland actually but I can't wait to get down there and get going at Florida."
Hounshell realizes he doesn't have to be in Gainesville to help out his new team.
"I'm going to be a big recruiter for Florida. I know a lot of kids that have offers and are really highly ranked. I'm already texting and emailing them telling them to commit. I'm going to start with DE Ray Drew from Georgia. We are pretty tight and I've been talking to him a lot. He wants to wait to commit but I'm going to try to fast track him and just tell him Florida is the place to be. I'm going to find out who all has offers from UF and help as much as I can."
When he visited Florida with his parents, Hounshell had the chance to watch practice. Here's what he had to say about some of his favorite Gators:
"Mike Pouncey is amazing. He's supposed to be the best center in college football and I see why. Also, runningback Jeff Demps is the fastest guy I've ever seen. He works his butt off too and he's the most athletic guy I've ever met."
Hounshell is looking forward to benefiting from some serious coaching at UF. He said he understands he will have to work very hard and he knows his offensive coordinator will help him progress.
"Coach Addazio is great. I love that guy. He is very upbeat and aggressive and I like to be coached like that. He's the best of the best."
As for Urban Meyer…
"He's an Ohio guy so we get along great. When I visited, he kept checking up on me and seeing how I was. He's fantastic and he's not like any other coach. He's really laid back and he was very relaxed when I watched him at practice."
Hounshell is looking into majoring in Business Management or Marketing at Florida and he plans on coming down for as many games as possible in 2010.
